More info on Zahourek System of Kinesthetic Anatomy in Clay
Modeling for anatomy studentsA new approach to teaching anatomy is aimed at kinesthetic learners. It utilizes modeling clay and a highly detailed plastic skeleton. Students build three-dimensional shapes of muscles and organs from clay, and then place them on the skeletal model. The Zoologik System of Kinesthetic Anatomy in Clay has a variety of hand-cast plastic models of skeletons specially designed for use with clay, with a half-size plastic replica of the human skeleton ('Maniken') serving as the centerpiece. Unlike other skeletons, this model is divided into systems and subsystems, each with its own characteristics. The plasticine clay provides the primary means of driving home the lessons of how the body functions. This non-toxic, acid-free clay scrubs off with warm water. By rolling it into various shapes, students can manufacture a myriad of structures ranging from large muscles like the vastus medialis to tiny structures such as the lymph nodes. The kits vary in price and come with instructions and curriculum guides. New A&P lab approach
Great new lab approach. Teaching human muscles by having the students mold them from clay and attach them to a basic skeleton. Described in paper Waters, JR; et al; Cat dissection vs. sculpting human structures in clay: an analysis of two approaches to undergraduate human anatomy laboratory education Advances in Physiology Education 29: 27-34, 2005. Also has great references for papers on models vs live animal dissection in education.Muscular system built onto plastic human skeleton Maniken figures purchased from Zahourek Systems

On-line cat dissection
Excellent website with real pictures that walk the viewer through a cat dissection.Kathhttp://biology.kenyon.edu/heithausp/cat-tutorial/welcome.htm"KENYON COLLEGECat Anatomy TutorialThis tutorial was designed to be used by college students studying cat anatomy. It should not be used to replace hands-on experience in the laboratory. It is intended to enhance the laboratory experience and provide an alternate frame of reference for learning. Before beginning each section of the tutorial students should have already examined the material in some detail in the laboratory."

Books on tape?
Name of Tool: ATutorThis is a site that I want to watch. When the text-to-speech server comes up, I'd like to incorporate it into a project.URL: http://www.atutor.caPrice: Free (My favorite word!!)Brief Description of Tool: This is a learning management system. It has all of the usual bells and whistles that an online teacher needs. What is cool is that "Research is currently underway to integrate a text-to-speech server with ATutor that converts text content into audio form, and returns it to the user as a file that can be listened to in one of many common multimedia applications." This would be great for adult students who drive alot and those with learning disablities. They could have their text read to them in the car! ATutor allows for template choice and has an easy non-HTML way to change fonts and color, etc. Not having to go into the programming for every little change makes this a good choice for non-programers.Ease of Use: Pretty easy. Downloads right onto your desktop.Application: ATutor is a Canadian open-source Web-based Learning Content Management System (LCMS)

Case-based Science Websites (w/cases)
Good A&P case studies. Professionally set up w/questions and answers. Factual, often quantitative answers. Available only to qualified teachers = http://www.sciencecases.orgSocial, legal, and ethical science issues. Probably better for Human Bio or Intro Bio. Answers to questions are opinion. Stimulates thought. = http://ehrweb.aaas.orgPlease add to this list.

Surveys as a means of keeping in touch
I must remember to incorporate Survey monkey http://www.surveymonkey.com/home.asp into my project. It would be a great starting place to find out what others think is important that I include in my final project and why.Kath
